OUR STORY
Time, made properly.
A watch is the only thing most people wear that has to keep working. Not look good — work. Hundreds of parts, moving against each other, quietly, for years. When it's done right, you stop noticing it. That's the whole point.
We started Chronewell because we kept finding watches that were done right and priced as if they weren't, sitting next to watches that were done badly and priced as if they were heirlooms. The gap between what a watch costs and what a watch is had stopped making sense.
So we set out to sell the first kind.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Every watch on this site has to earn its place, and we look at the same things every time.
The movement. Automatic, driven by the motion of your wrist — no battery, no cell to replace in three years. It should keep honest time and it should keep it after a year of being worn, knocked and set down on hard surfaces.
The case. Stainless steel, finished on the parts you can feel as well as the parts you can see. Brushed surfaces that stay even. Polished edges that catch light rather than glare. A crown that threads without fighting you.
The dial. This is where cheap watches give themselves away — printing that sits slightly off, indices that don't align, lume that dies before you've left the room. We look closely, because you will too, every day.
The bracelet. Solid links, a clasp that shuts with a sound rather than a rattle. It's half the weight on your wrist and it gets half our attention.
Water resistance. Rated properly and stated honestly. If it says 20 BAR, it means it.
If a watch falls short on any of these, it doesn't reach the site. Plenty don't.
WHAT YOU GET
Every watch is inspected by hand before it leaves us — timed, checked, cleaned, and packed. Not scanned by a machine that counts boxes. Looked at.
Every watch carries a [two-year warranty]. If something goes wrong with the movement in normal wear, that's ours to fix, and you won't have to argue about it.
And you get [thirty days]. Wear it to work. Wear it in the shower if it's rated for it. Put it next to the watch you already own and see which one you reach for. If it isn't the right watch, send it back — no explanation required.
We'd rather lose the sale than have a watch sit unworn in a drawer.
THE RESERVE COLLECTION
Reserve is our name for the pieces we set aside — the references we think are the strongest of what we carry, and the ones we're happiest to put our name next to. Same standards, same warranty, smaller selection.
ON PRICE
We're often asked how the prices work. The answer is dull: we keep the chain between the factory and your wrist as short as we can, and we don't spend the difference on a story. A well-made automatic watch doesn't need to cost what a used car costs. It never did. The industry just got very good at explaining why it should.
Buy one watch you'll actually wear. That's all we're trying to sell you.
